For our first installment of New Year, New You Week, I thought we’d begin with your closet! A new year is upon us so it is essential for all you fashionistas to clean out your closets! Sorting out what’s in your closet allows you to see what you have, what you don’t want/need anymore, & it will save you time getting dressed.
Get to it with these helpful steps:
1. Toss out things you have not worn in the past year (or 2!) i.e. things that do not fit, things that are damaged & cannot be repaired, things that you will most likely never wear again, etc. Many of these items can be donated to the Goodwill or Salvation Army. Another option is to sell them on Craigslist or eBay.
2. Organize your clothing by item & then by color: so put all your pants together, all your tops together, etc. & then sort them by color. This will definitely cut down on your dressing time because it will be easier to put items together for an outfit.
3. Buy good garment hangers. Proper hanging of your clothing will help keep them in their original shape. You don’t necessarily need to hang items such as jeans & sweaters. They can be neatly folded & stacked. For shoes you can purchase clear boxes & stack them. If you don’t want to go the clear, plastic route you can use white shoe boxes which will give your closet a nice, clean, & organized look. If you want a fun project you can take pictures of your shoes & tape each picture to the outside of boxes so you know what shoes are inside!
One of my favorite organization stores is The Container Store. They have great stuff to help you stay organized & I would like to thank them for giving me the idea to do this post!
