Fashion Week is Here!

So Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week has officially started in New York! Oh how I wish I was there…(sigh)…anyway, I’ve been pretty impressed with the diversity on the runways & all the fabulous designs for Spring 2009 Ready-To-Wear. A ton of shows happen each day & I’ll be keeping you abreast of the best of the best. So let’s get to it! [All photos courtesy of Style]

BCBG had a great show with various colors from all over the color spectrum. There were bright oranges & pinks, teal, deep purple, grays, & on & on it went. Dresses were beautiful, & flowing with clutches & chain link purses as accessories. Shoes were strappy & platform high heels & the make-up was kept very natural. It looked as if the models had little to no make-up which I think helped keep the focus on the beautiful clothing.

Designer Nicole Miller (one of my favorites) decided to use a lot of mix & match prints & fabrics. Her line was inspired by a trip she took to Haiti. She used purple, green, bright orange, & trench coats were in gray. For accessories models were styled in fedora hats & long, chunky necklaces. The shoes were similar to those in the BCBG show, which will most likely be the trend next spring.

Newbie Jason Wu began his line 3 years ago & is showing no signs of slowing down. His popularity has grown tremendously recently, especially in Japan where the inspiration for his Spring 2009 looks came from. If Oscar de la Renta or Carolina Herrera ever retire, Wu would definitely continue their legacy. His line is very lady-like with form-fitting dresses & A-line skirts. Bursts of color in pinks, deep blues, & greens sang throughout the entire show. Wu also gets major points for the diversity on his runway!

Designer Rachel Roy has had quite the busy summer. Baby #2 with hubby Damon Dash arrived in May, then in June Jones Apparel acquired a 50% stake in her 3 year old label. As the trend on all the runways for Spring 2009, Roy’s line includes very ladylike dresses, & studded skirts for a bit of edge. Her color palette of soft purple, & green with pops of yellow meshed well with her clean designs. She also designed a killer pair of shoes for Manolo–fierce!
